Manifesto
I desperately want to make films.
But not any film.
I don't want to make a film that looks like the cheap paint used to paint barns.
― Nicholas Ray
You want to be paid for your soul.
― Rose Coleman to her son Ornette
What is Ultracinema?
Ultracinema is Cinema bigger than Cinema.
Cinema that breaks the mold.
Cinema that overflows strays unsettles.
Cinema of contractions and dilations, bursts and overflows.
Cinema which intensity touches the limit of what is bearable.
Broken cinema breaking through.
De-genere, degenerate cinema: cinema sui generis.
Cinema that does not engage in circumvention of the incapables: it addresses spectators in their sound minds, where commercial cinema calls respect for the audience its contempt for the audience.
Cinema vortigo: vortex and vertex, abyssal vertigo.Cinema that pierces and bleeds the screen proving why to shoot means both to film and to fire.
Cinema lamp of an insatiable desire, as Kierkegaard says about Aladdin: with a claw in infinity.
Desperate, desiring cinema: sidereal cinema.
Cinema where the will to truth and the will to illusion converge through vision and by converging they meld into a fearless will to life, untamable, they merge and recast according to a law both enacted and violated during the process of creation.
Cinema that articulates and disarticulates and re-articulates its own language to incorporate an epiphany that, on paper, was out of its reach.
Cinema that disarms critically those who watch it, disorients in its outcomes those who make it.
Cinema that punches with style, like the salamander killing and swallowing its prey with a single flick of its tongue.
Cinema where style is the artist bursting into cinema.
Cinema where style is what Schopenhauer says: the physiognomy of the spirit.
Cinema where style is the will of radical representation.
Cinema where style does not turn into signature.
Idea and body generating cinema.
Cinema relaunch written with the camera and everything that comes up or blossoms on set crew blood actors shit lights muscles costumes synapses lenses sperm pixels moods affaires…
Cinema where the camera can be felt or not but we always perceive, in its arrhythmias, the ocular heartbeats of the author.
Cinema of adventure and fighting, action and contemplation, sense and sensation.
Cinema that multiplies formal exploration by existential exploration, being as interested in language as in the human being.
Oxymoronic cinema that expands contracting itself or contracts expanding itself, faithful tosometimes obscure, inscrutable logics, coherent to the point of contradiction, contradictoryto the point of coherence.
Beautiful terrible cinema, sublime ridiculous.Cine-hazard.
A cinema gone out of hand, as far as the thought can see, to fist our eyes.
Cinema that twirls falling down, it's the eye’s fever: high voltage cinema.
Cinema as contagion: it cannot heal from the flame that gave birth to it.
Cinema as obsession: balm for recovering possessed incubators.
Cinema as tightrope walker: always one step away from breaking its neck.
Cinema that wants to grasp the essence of life and refract beams of ultralife.
Cinema of the artlife.
Cinema that comes from the wound and goes – straight or through twists and turns – to the wound.
Indigestible cinema: radiant the rejections.
Cinema from which something mind-blowing erupts: cinema volcano.
Cinema of fire and ice: cinema scorch.
Cinema incarnated: the soul is the body of the movie.
Cinema so cinema that makes somebody mutter: no, it can't be, that’s not cinema.
Sure: it’s Ultracinema!
